How we work

At the CBA New Brunswick, we carry out the vision and mission of the Canadian Bar Association in the province.

A team gathered in a meeting room and having a discussion.

The CBA NB is governed by our Branch bylaws and policies along with the bylaws of the CBA. Led by our President, our Board of Directors is made up of 47 members responsible for advancing the work of the CBA NB. They ensure the necessary resources for Branch operations, and oversee the outcomes of our advocacy, programs and activities.

The CBA NB Council provides a forum for leaders in the New Brunswick Branch to learn, inform and promote the work of the CBA in the province. Our Council serves as an advisory group to the Board of Directors.

Our Executive Director leads all New Brunswick Branch operations and manages our team so we can support and serve our members.

National governance

Our national association is governed by a President, supported by a 15-member Board of Directors. The National Board represents the diversity of Canada’s legal profession, including practice types, experience, skills, geography and more. All provinces and territories have a seat at the table. CBA Board members are elected by the current Board of Directors, Branch presidents and National Section chairs.

Each member serves a two-year term. Board member terms are staggered so only some of the Board change each year.
